Chisholm Plaza Shopping Centre Breaks Ground with Successful Sod-Turning Ceremony – MEDIA RELEASE
March 10, 2025

A significant milestone was celebrated yesterday, Wednesday 5th March, with the official sod-turning ceremony for the highly anticipated Chisholm Plaza Shopping Centre. This exciting event, on the site of the future $180 million dollar shopping centre, marked the beginning of a transformative project for the local community, bringing together representatives from all tiers of government, key partners, and members of the community.
We extend our deepest thanks to our guests of Honour, including Anthony El-Hazouri and Charbel Hazzouri, Founding Directors of Revelop, Meryl Swanson MP, Federal Member for Paterson, The Honourable Jenny Aitchison, Member for Maitland and Minister for Regional Transport & Roads, Mayor Philip Penfold, Maitland Council and Laurence Antcliff, Liberal Candidate for Paterson. We wish to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful construction partners that have helped in bringing this important project to life, Richard Crookes Constructions and APG.
Chisholm Plaza will be a key asset for the Maitland region, providing a modern, vibrant hub designed to meet the evolving needs of the community. The centre will be tripled anchored by majors, Woolworths, Dan Murphy’s, and Aldi, ensuring a strong and diverse retail offering for shoppers. The 15,000+ m2 development will feature over 50 specialty retailers, providing the local area with much needed essential services such as a swim school, gym, medical and allied health centre, childcare facility, in addition to a variety of cafes and restaurants.
This state-of-the-art neighbourhood shopping centre will sit on a 6-hectare site within the new Waterford development by Avid Property Group, located in the heart of the Hunter Region, just 35 minutes from Newcastle. The centre is designed with the growing needs of families in mind and will serve not only the new estate but also the broader Maitland area, particularly the communities of Thornton and Chisholm.
With over 600 parking spaces and a projected primary trade area of more than 30,000 residents by 2026, Chisholm Plaza will provide unmatched convenience for its customers. It’s designed to be more than just a shopping destination; it will be a true community centre, creating a space where people can connect, shop, and enjoy everything it has to offer.
As we move forward with the development, we’re excited to continue building a centre that reflects the community’s needs and aspirations. We look forward to working with our partners and stakeholders as we bring this vision to life and deliver a world-class, community-focused shopping centre.
Once again, thank you to all those who joined us for this important event. We can’t wait to welcome the community to Chisholm Plaza upon its completion in late 2026.
