Paula & Sean Dunn
Waterford residents Paula Dunn and her husband Sean Dunn recently purchased their third property in the area to cater for their growing family. “We were looking to buy an established house in the local area for a long time, before realising that building new at Waterford was a much better option for us and our budget,” Ms Dunn said. “This will be our third property in the area but it is the first time we have built, so it is an exciting journey to be able to design our house from the ground up. “Building new has allowed us to make sure our home is the right size and offers the large amount of space that we have always dreamt of for our kids.”
Marty & Jodie Whiley
Current Sydney residents Marty and Jodie Whiley will relocate to Chisholm after their home is built on their recently-purchased acreage-style block at Waterford. “The location and block size were ideal for us to build our new home,” Marty said. “The large lot will enable us to build a big home and also cater for an in-ground pool and large garage that every man would die for. “We wanted to build a home that we could afford but had all the inclusions we were after. “We built brand new, so we could have exactly what we wanted – style fittings and size.”
Building should commence on their McDonald Jones, Lyndhurst Executive home once the land is registered in November. “Features of the Lyndhurst Executive that appealed to us include four bedrooms plus study, butler’s pantry and a bigger ensuite. “We were looking for a luxury home with all the inclusions that can be expensive to install on their own.” The existing Waterford community fit perfectly with what the Whiley’s were looking for in a home. “The community looks amazing with its beautiful surrounds and lovely homes already established,” Marty explained. “I stay fit and healthy for my job as a firefighter by visiting the gym, cycling and walking daily. I look forward to strolling through the park lands once our house is built.”
Marty said there was a lot of information and support provided by the AVID team through the process so far. “The information provided by the land sales team was very professional and accommodating. They answered all questions in a timely manner and were very helpful.”
Deborah Fisher
Deborah and her husband Les made the move to Waterford’s Harvest neighbourhood, joining their adult children who both live in Waterford with their own young families. Hear more from Deborah on her experience at Waterford below:
“A residential community was an easy choice because we were able to downsize on land but maintain a large family home; we could have a ‘retired lifestyle’ without being in a retirement village or losing our independence.
It’s lovely being close to family but beyond that we have also been able to build connections with residents at all age levels, from our children’s friends and neighbours to parents at the local school our grandchildren go to. We haven’t been pigeon-holed into a neighbourhood of only people in our age group.
When we first told our kids ‘we’ve bought land in the Harvest neighbourhood and we’re only going to be two minutes away from you,’ the response was not entirely enthusiastic and there was certainly a concern that we’d be around every five minutes checking up on them.
But the reality has been wonderful, if we need them or they need us we can be there to support each other with everything from school drop off to looking after the little ones over the holidays.”

Marty Whiley
“Living in Waterford has 100 per cent allowed us to have space while still being connected to everything else. We love the location, the surrounds, and the accessibility.
We originally moved here for my work in the military, but it’s just grown from there. We now own a beauty salon business in the local area, and we’ve welcomed a daughter who will one day go to a school within the community. We’re here to stay.
Since we moved in obviously a lot more houses have gone up which has been great. Everyone here really takes pride in the community and their home.
Whenever there’s a Waterford event like Christmas Carols or Sunday Music Sessions we always get involved, everyone really embraces those activities.”
Jack O’Connor
Jack and his family have all purchased in Waterford and are drawn to the natural landscapes that flow through the community. Hear Jack’s experience below.
“I work in an industrial environment at a nearby power station so having that natural escape to come home to, stroll through, and to relax in on the weekends is really beneficial.
The homes that my family and I have lived in over the years have all been either close to, or facing, these natural enclaves. Having those relaxing landscapes surrounding you is wonderful.
We’ve grown up in the area, so I think as a family we wanted to stay close to everything we know and love. Waterford was a natural choice for all of us, there are so many amenities in the area and it’s still near Newcastle, so I’m connected with my friends living there”
